Hi everyone, I hope you’re all safe and well.
I wanted to take a moment to address you directly now that the dust has settled from the General Election.
As many of you know, I had the great honour of representing Bury North in Parliament. It has been a privilege to serve this community, and I’m incredibly grateful for the trust you placed in me over the years.
Four weeks ago, the people of Bury North made their voices heard, and while the outcome wasn’t what I had hoped for, Bury North has spoken. Democracy is the cornerstone of our society, and it’s important to recognise that change is part of its strength.
I’ve intentionally taken some time before speaking publicly to allow the new MP to establish himself and begin his work for our community without distraction. The role of an MP is a challenging one, and I wish him all the best as he takes on this responsibility. Representing Bury North is a both a privilege and heavy duty, and I wish him well - for all the sake of us in Bury North.
During my time as your MP, I’ve had the privilege of working on issues that matter deeply to us all—from improving our local healthcare services to supporting businesses through challenging economic times. I’ve been able to meet so many of you, hear your concerns, and do my best to address them. The past few years have been incredibly rewarding, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.
Together we brought over £347 million of investment to our area – saving Gigg Lane, bringing £40 million to regenerate Bury and Radcliffe Town Centre, we’ve created four new schools in Bury including Special schools and delivered much more that should enhance our area for not only years but generations to come. Of that, we can be proud of what we achieved together.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to my incredible team, who have worked tirelessly alongside me. Their dedication and hard work have been truly inspiring, and I could not have served Bury North without them. I also want to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support—they have been my rock through both the highs and lows.
As I step back from my role, I remain committed to our community. I will continue to be involved in local issues, and I’m eager to find new ways to contribute to the public good. My commitment to Bury North and its residents hasn’t changed — I will always be here to support our community in any way I can.
Finally, thank you to the people of Bury North for allowing me to serve as your MP. It has been the honour of a lifetime, and I am proud to call this community my home. Let’s continue to work together to build a brighter future.
With my thanks and sincerest wishes,
James
