Dear Matt Thank you for your letter of the 20 March 2023 in which you have advised that Bury Football Club Supporters Society Limited and Shakers Community Society Limited have both recommended a merger of their respective societies to reunite the fanbase and deliver one elite men’s football team playing at Gigg Lane for the 2023-24 season.
The Football Association subject to the regulatory compliance that has been advised previously to both societies is supportive of changing the name to Bury FC if the newly merged fan membership prove with consultation that they are fully supportive.
I understand that the vote of members of each society is now live. If the outcome of the voting process is for a merger of the two entities, the Football Association (through our National League System team headed by Laurence Jones) will be on hand to support representatives through the processes associated with any request of a name change. In any case, this should be based on formal consultation of members of the merged entity agreeing to the name change and process of that consultation being evidenced.
