This week in my Bury Times column I discuss the importance of bars, restaurants and cricket clubs for the post COVID-19 recovery of Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington and why we all should show them our support, socially distanced of course!
It was fantastic to be at Tottington St Johns Cricket Club on Sunday watching their friendly match against Rammy Traders. As we gradually come out of lockdown it was brilliant to see such a big crowd of all ages enjoying the cricket and the opportunity to socialise together whilst respecting social distancing guidelines. Totty St Johns are an example of how cricket can play its part in positively impacting its local community before, during and after COVID 19. Its hardworking committee and members have transformed the ground and clubhouse and are seeking every opportunity to ensure its facilities are available for all to enjoy no matter your gender, background or age. During this difficult period our local cricket clubs are more important than ever, they are important, much cherished community assets that I would urge all to support.
