On Friday, James Daly MP attended a celebration to mark the successful completion of apprenticeships at local company, Cosalea and The Victoria Walshaw. While there he presented certificates of completion and spoke at length with the apprentices, Adam and Owen, about how the experience had been for them.
Adam’s first job was washing pots at The Victoria Walshaw, he quickly became a part of the team & progressed to work Front of House serving in the bar & restaurant.
He went on to gain experience in other bars within Bury & then returned to The Victoria to be supported to undertake this qualification. This apprenticeship has allowed Adam to underpin & broaden the knowledge he has & have his wide skill set formally recognised, showing a great understanding of the sector & all the components needed to succeed.
Since leaving school Owen, who has completed a level 2 qualification, has worked hard to progress through his apprenticeship. He has excellent customer service skills & always goes above & beyond to strive to meet & exceed customer expectations.
Owen is keen to learn as much as he possibly can from those around him and shows characteristics of a great leader. This foundation will give Owen the impetus to progress with the sector & set him apart from others.
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. To start an apprenticeship, you’ll need to be: 16 or over, living in England and not in full-time education however, you can apply for an apprenticeship while you’re still at school but will need to be 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays to start the apprenticeship.
In the last academic year 321,400 people have started an apprenticeship. To find out more about becoming an apprentice and being paid while you earn qualifications, you can go to: www.gov.uk/become-apprentice
