🔵 Today marks the first day that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has been available for use which is a big step in the right direction as storage and transport is much easier.
🔵 We also now have over 1 million doses distributed. This is an impressive figure, especially when compared to many European nations that are significantly behind where we are. So thank you to the NHS, the Department of Health and Social Care - DHSC and Matt Hancock for all their efforts.
🔵 I have also had lots of questions about why some people over 80 have had vaccinations while others have not and I would like to explain that here. Doctors practices are contacting their patients that are over 80 as and when a vaccine dose becomes available. While rapid progress is being made, not all of the 9000 over 80s in the borough of Bury have been vaccinated yet and as such if you or a family member that are over the age of 80 have not been contacted yet then please do not be alarmed and wait to be contacted.
🔵 Further to this, NHS Bury CCG have been made aware of a scam that has been affecting people in Bury. People of an age that they are soon to be getting the vaccine have been contacted by scammers saying that their vaccination will take place at their home and asked for personal details. 🚨THIS IS A SCAM🚨 Please let any older family members who may be vulnerable to this know that this is something they should be aware of.
🔵 This is shocking behaviour that targets some of the most vulnerable in society at an incredibly difficult time for them. So please let us come together and make sure that our older family and friends do not fall victim to this awful scam.
