Tonight I spoke in the debate on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill - a new piece of legislation that will deliver on the promises to cut crime and introduce tougher sentencing for the most violent offenders.
The Bill will:
Deliver longer sentences for the worst offenders,
Ensure longer imprisonment of rapists,
Introduce life sentences for killer drivers,
End the early release of dangerous offenders,
Extend 'positions of trust' laws to further protect teenagers from sexual abuse
Tougher sentences for assaults on Emergency Services Workers
Various measures to crack down on knife and violent crime
Police covenant enshrined in law
What it will not do:
Prevent peaceful protest
The people of Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington deserve to feel safe from crime and that's what I believe we are delivering by supporting this bill.
