Thank you!
A year ago today, you elected me as your Member of Parliament.
Despite the challenges that Coronavirus has given us, we have still achieved so much in my first year as your representative.
The X41 bus service was saved from being scrapped and continues to operate as a commuter service.
I fulfilled my election promise and visited the line of control in Kashmir, as well as joining the APPG.
Helped to co-ordinate flood responses across Bury, Ramsbottom & Tottington.
Backed BREXIT and continue to support the will of the people in Bury North.
Continued to fight against the GMSF and the plans to destroy our greenbelt.
Repatriated constituents who were stranded overseas at the outbreak of the pandemic.
Helped to deliver PPE to our care homes, hospitals and other crucial services.
Co-ordinated the delivery of meals to vulnerable and key workers throughout COVID-19
Secured funding to support individuals and businesses in Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington during the pandemic.
Assisted thousands of constituents with casework and continue to do so.
But I've also been helping to deliver our National Commitments - despite the pandemic!
Nationally during this global health pandemic the Conservatives have been able to deliver on some of our core manifesto pledges:
β
BREXIT - passed our oven-ready Withdrawal Agreement meaning whether it is Deal or No Deal, we're fully out of the EU as a sovereign nation on the 1st January 2021.
β
TAKING CONTROL OF OUR BORDERS - passed the Immigration Bill which introduces a points-based immigration system from the 1st January 2021 and ends free movement.
β
NHS - Β£6.6 billion more in funding for the NHS in 2021/22.
β
POLICE OFFICERS - so far we are above target having recruited over 5,500 new Police Officers out of the 20,000 pledged. In total, over 70,000 people have applied.
β
MORE DOCTORS & NURSES - over 14,500 more nurses and over 6000 more doctors over the past year in the NHS.
β
DOMESTIC ABUSE BILL - a landmark law that will strengthen the support for victims of abuse.
β
SCHOOL FUNDING BOOST - delivering a Β£14.4 billion three year school funding boost, seeing per-pupil spending in secondary school go up to Β£5,150 per pupil.
β
OVERSEAS AID BUDGET CUT - reducing the overseas aid budget from 0.7% of GDP each year to 0.5% of GDP - saving Β£4 billion to be spent in the U.K. to assist in these unprecedented times.
β
KICKSTART - 19,000 jobs created through the Governments Kickstart programme for 16-25-year-olds.
β
LIFETIME SKILLS GUARANTEE - proving adults with a fully-funded college course.
β
NATIONAL LIVING WAGE - increasing the NLW to record levels.
β
DEFENCE BUDGET - largest defence budget boost in 30 years, creating 10,000 jobs.
β
TRADE AGREEMENTS - 57 trade agreements signed, boosting trade, opportunities and jobs.
β
ECONOMIC SUPPORT COVID-19 - 12 million jobs protected and Β£280 billion of economic support overall.
It has certainly been a busy and unprecedented year, however, there is still more work to be done.
