I wanted to talk to you all about what is going on in Parliament this week. We are in the process of debating the contents of the Queen's Speech and will be voting on it this week.
This sets out the broad direction that the Government wants to go in the next Parliamentary session and includes a large number of bills that will be introduced to Parliament in the coming months, including the Planning Bill.
To be clear, we will not be voting on the individual pieces of legislation at this time, just the broad legislative agenda for the upcoming session.
Each bill, following their introduction to Parliament will face the normal Parliamentary scrutiny and debate when every provision set out in the legislation will be examined at length.
With regards to the Planning Bill, when I am looking at that legislation I will be motivated by what I have stood on as a politician within Bury for the last 10 years, which is protection of the greenbelt and ensuring that the housing numbers we need over the upcoming years are based on the most up to date population figures.
