Once again, we come to the end of another week, so I thought I’d take a few minutes to give you some snippets of what I’ve been up to!
As an additional snippet of information – since my last Weekly Update, another 2,624,008 first dose vaccinations have been administered across the UK – 598,389 was yesterday alone!

🗓️ Monday 🗓️
🔵 Met with the Manchester United Foundation
🔵 Discussing financial and other support the Foundation has been undertaking during the Pandemic and potential support they can give to various bodies in Bury.
🔵 Meeting with Enterprise, to discuss Bury’s transport infrastructure needs and youth employment issues.
🔵 Teams Call with the Football Association on various matters, including support for the game in our town.
🔵 Catch up with Healthier Heroes, to discuss the work they are doing with ex-services personnel at their facility in Burnley. Looking at what lessons we can learn to provide a similar facility in Bury.
🔵 Northern Research Group of Conservative MP’s Zoom Call to discuss the North’s needs in the upcoming Budget and issues related to the pandemic/lockdown.
🔵 Meeting with the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the Budget and our local and regional priorities.

🔵 Attended a full afternoon session of the Justice Select Committee.
🔵 Meeting on the reopening of schools with the Schools Minister.
🔵 Attended briefing with Lord Frost, who was the Prime Minister Euro negotiator on the Withdrawal Agreement.

🔵 Meeting with the Sports Minister
🔵 Discussion and preparation meeting with officers of the Justice Select Committee as to how we progress our inquiries into court capacity and the sustainability of legal aid.
🔵 Meeting with the Head Teacher of Hoyle Nursery School, where I am a governor and the secretariat of the APPG on Nursery Schools, Nursery and Reception Classes.
🔵 Briefing on the Armed Forces Bill, with the Minister.
🔵 Meeting with Minister, Lord Callanan to discuss the Green Home Grant scheme.
🔵 Attended meeting of APPG on Call to Evidence, with evidence from whistle-blowers at GMP, how they can be legally protected, and issues related to the force.
🔵 Attended Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 commemoration event.
🗓️ Thursday 🗓️
🔵 Chaired APPG on Legal Aid enquiry session into the sustainability of Legal Aid and a publicly funded bar.
🔵 As Chair of APPG for Youth Employment, chaired a session and presented our report on how we can improve employment and training outcomes for young people to the Employment Minister.
🔵 Attended a briefing with the President of JP Morgan on the international economy and how financial services can play its part in powering our economic recovery from COVID 19.
🔵 Interview about SEND policy, what steps we need to take to improve support for the vulnerable and those in need of help in Bury and elsewhere.

🔵 Attended briefing with Vaccines Minister, regarding vaccination rollout.
🔵 Attended meeting with NACRO as to how we can improve services for prisoners who have left custody in the community.
🔵 Interview with the Centre for Cultural value and the University of Leeds on how we can use culture to support our economic and social recovery from COVID 19. Discussed in my role as Chair of the APPG for Northern Culture.
🔵 Meeting with Bury Council / CCG on the vaccine rollout in Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington.
🔵 Discussion with Bury Council regarding the Additional Restrictions Grant criteria and joint infrastructure projects we can work on together.

🔵 Meeting with the Housing Minister on building safety, cladding and the impact on freeholders and leaseholders.
