Yesterday I spoke in the House of Commons about spending on culture and sport across the North of England and here in Bury.
I welcome the spending commitments of DCMS to support cultural and sporting organisations through this pandemic. Here in Bury the MET theatre, ELR and Lancashire Fusiliers Mueseum are all fantastic organisations that have benefited from this Government support during this pandemic.
I am also incredibly hopeful after the announcement of the Community Ownership Fund. This presents a huge opportunity for Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington as we look to how to save both Gigg Lane and the Ramsbottom Co-op Hall and make sure they become the key cultural and social assets that they are.
Culture, heritage and sport are massive parts of what makes up our identity here in Bury. The towns of the North of England all have unique cultural offerings that should be invested in as part of our social and economic recovery from the pandemic.
