Free government support for businesses across Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington will be outlined by local MP James Daly on Thursday 17th June, to help them take advantage of international opportunities and to tap into the huge global demand for British products. By organising a series of events through 2021, James Daly is helping businesses in his constituency to start or grow international sales and showcase the Best of British goods. In Mr Daly’s next event at 11:00 on 17th June, businesses will hear from the Department for International Trade, local experts and a bank on how they can grow their business.
Exports are equivalent to nearly a third of the national income, and UK is the fifth biggest exporter in the world. Agreements have been reached with 67 nations plus the EU, covering £891bn in trade. James is determined to help local companies thrive in the high growth markets of the future, create high quality jobs and help the local area recover after the Covid crisis.
The latest research shows exports support 6.5m jobs across the UK, 74% of which are outside London. The research estimates jobs directly and indirectly supported by exports pay around 7% more than the national median, with Office for National Statistics estimating that goods exporting businesses are also 21% more productive.
James Daly is working with the Department for International Trade (DIT) as part of the Parliamentary Export Programme, to help local businesses access the free support they need to boost their exporting potential and understand the effects of trade agreements and how to benefit from them.
These sessions will provide Bury businesses an opportunity to hear speakers from the Department for International Trade, an experienced local exporter, and a bank, all detailing the support available for businesses to expand their business overseas.
Mr Daly said:
"Helping local businesses recover from the pandemic is one of my top priorities. That's why I'm delighted to be hosting events that can protect jobs and give businesses across Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington information, advice, and finance to sell internationally.
“The events I’m organising are free, and all businesses need to do is register on the link below. Experts and experienced exporters will provide advice including on government-supported working capital and the practicalities of post-Brexit trade.
“Whether a business is new to exporting, has exported in the past or is a current exporter, participating in the programme will equip them with the support and tools they need to begin or continue their exporting journey. “
Mr Daly is a founding member of the Parliamentary Export Programme where selected cross-party MPs organise and chair virtual meetings with experts from business and government to support local businesses in their exporting journey.
