Bury North Member of Parliament, James Daly, attended the official opening of Fishpool, Goshen, Redvales and Springs (FGRS) Community Hub at Gigg Lane, earlier this week. The opening was attended by a whole host of guests including local residents, volunteers and other community organisations.
Prior to its official opening, the new community centre has already been positively impacting the lives of residents in the Redvales area through its community café, school uniform schemes and many other events. Through the efforts of hard-working volunteers led by Gem Goss, Sherridan Matthews and Elizabeth Brockbank, the FGRS Community Hub is set to continue in its important work.
Mr Daly commented ‘Gem, Sherridan, Liz and all the team are integral to transforming Gigg Lane into a multi-purpose community hub for the benefit of the whole community and all local residents.’
Since closing its doors Gigg Lane has been through a transformation with volunteers repairing the stands, repainting communal areas and returning the pitch to its former glory.
The Bury North MP added ‘Gigg Lane is looking absolutely magnificent, and we should all give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to bring the iconic stadium back to life.’
