It was an honour to support the brilliant Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox in bringing the Down Syndrome Act 2022 into law. The Act, which received Royal Assent on 28th April 2022, aims to improve access to services and life outcomes for people with Down Syndrome. It requires Government to develop and consult on guidance to which authorities must have regard when providing certain health, social care, education and housing services.
It is crucial that this guidance is fit for purpose so that people with Down Syndrome can access the support they need to thrive in their community. Therefore, I am pleased that the Government has announced the Call for Evidence. I would urge all constituents who may be impacted by the new guidance to please take part in this consultation.
